My name is Steven Braun, and I am a creative developer with an interest in web and graphic design, data visualization, and digital humanities. I am currently the Data Analytics/Visualization Specialist in the Northeastern University Libraries Digital Scholarship Group. I received my B.A. (2011), summa cum laude, in chemistry (with distinction) and Asian studies (with distinction) from St. Olaf College. After graduating, I lived in Kyoto, Japan as a Fulbright Fellow, carrying out computational biophysics research at Kyoto University. When I returned to the U.S., I subsequently pursued graduate work at Yale University, receiving my M.S. in molecular biophysics and biochemistry in 2013. I now live in the Boston metropolitan area.

My Interests
My academic interests are very interdisciplinary, crossing the physical sciences, life sciences, mathematics, computer science, cognitive science, linguistics, philosophy, psychology, religious studies (especially Buddhism), and Asian studies. In my work, I sustain interests in these domains as well as their expression in a variety of forms, including data visualization, digital humanities, and critical conversation about parallels in methodologies, paradigms, and perspectives between them. I enjoy opportunities to work on projects and problems that sit right at the perceived divisions between the natural sciences, social sciences, and the arts and humanities, and I am a proponent for progressive education that values the richness of dialogue that can occur at these intersections.
Outside my work, I am an avid cook, baker, bread maker, runner, reader, graphic and web designer, clarinetist, learner of Japanese, and seeker of interesting cafes.
